ペン回しやなんやらかんやら

Defining what "master"ing a pen spinning trick means for you.

As a beginner starting the peculiar hobby of penspinning back in 2010 December, I never particularly had a guide or asked anyone for guidance for it. More specifically, I never knew where to find the resources, as I never had the thought to google something on a search bar. All there was for me was Collaboration Videos and complilation videos of tournaments (prominently by Ellusion67).

Now, times are different: in almost every social media platform (YouTube, Tik Tok, Twitter, etc.) it is rather easy to find resources that can help you 'guide' to improve your own pen spinning. Examples include lists of tricks to learn, combos to learn, demonstration videos and tutorials.

It may be for that reason, but I feel beginners improve at alot faster rate than beginners 5-10 years ago, at least faster than the rate that I improved. This was apparent when I moderated UPSB and also in Penspinning Discords. I am honestly jealous to see these people learning faster than I ever had in my career, but I digress on that point. The topic I want to discuss about is what I often see/hear beginners say when he/she talks about his/her progress in: 'master'ing a trick.

Showering thoughts about hyp_notic_ and roles in Collaboration Videos

Hey

www.youtube.com

It's really been awhile since I willingly submitted to a properly organized Collaboration Video (Hereinafter, CV), and I am blessed to be able to be one of the cast of Herenz's recent CV, hyp_notic_

I think what really motivated me to film for this CV was the trailer which revealed the main gloomy part of the song (chorus?climax?idk). And it hit me that my spinning could probably blend in well with the song's atmosphere.

Sharing my past videos

www.youtube.com

Hobby released a new PV with his preferred selection of spinners using a song from Bruno Mars. Its always refreshing seeing Western songs in pen spinning videos. Or any PV if any.

I found myself in the PV as well, and realized, based on my video's quality, Hobby has ripped the video from Twitter. Usually, I would be upset about my video being poorly encoded, but again that would be me around 5 years ago. I am more thankful that there is still someone who would even consider using my video for pen spinning videos.

But, if any, I felt that I should share my raw video files for anyone else who has been interested for use, or just watch. I would also want to share the unlisted sessions I have made in the past.

Do we actually still need UPSB Forum? Part 1: Confronting the value of UPSB

I cannot remember exactly when UPSB v5 has shut down, but it seems like it has been a long time. With that reason, it has made the PS community disbanded into multiple small communities from varied social network mediums. Although other community sites such as JEB, FPSB, THPSC etc still alive, it is still valid to say UPSB was a large pillar of the whole PS community. It was certainly not the brightest moment in anyone's penspinning career, but penspinning certainly did not die. This is thanks to those individuals who were passionate enough to take initiative into creating their own circles. Two individuals I think of for this matter will be Mango and Hobby, both from UPSB formerly. While these two's approaches were quite different into actualizing a penspinning (hereinafter referred to as PS) community, they are nonetheless very large contributors to the community. Of course there are many other individuals who have done similar activities, and they surely deserve credit as well.

While these small communities have served as very good emergency measures with the collapse of UPSB, there is still one question that remains unanswered (the title of this article ofc).

The Unintended Legacy of Simple Linkage Series

This is simply a reflection of my Simple Linkage Series that I have made by whim, after a little conversation about it at The Workshop discord. As a result of that conversation, it has encouraged me to take a look at the SLS since 4-5 years ago. And I just wanted to let my regards out based on what I have saw.

Regarding Penspinning World Tournament 2019

At some point of lethargic routine of updating myself to the current news of pen spinning, there is a momentary phase of motivation to give my own two cents into the community: now is the time.

Here, I will write my overall sentiments of this year's world tournament and and the challenges of managing it (my emphasis will lie mostly here). If some people want this removed, feel free to comment or contact me personally by any means.
